Evaluation

 


Evaluation is a systematic process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting information to determine the extent to which pupils are achieved instructional objectives. Evaluation is a broad process as compared to test and we can say also say that test is a part of evaluation. Evaluation is a judgmental process. We receive degree on the basis of evaluation not test.



Types of Evaluation 

     (1)   Placement Evaluation

     (2)   Formative Evaluation

     (3)   Diagnostic Evaluation

     (4)   Summative Evaluation

 

    (1) Placement Evaluation

Placement evaluation as the name suggests it is designed to place the right person on the right place. It judges the entry performance of the learner. The main objective of this evaluation is to determine the position of the learner in the instructional sequence. It is helpful for admission of pupils into a new course of institution. For example: medical entrance exams and aptitude test.

    (2) Formative Evaluation

Formative evaluation take place during the process of instruction. The goal of formative evaluation is to supervise student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructions to improve their learning. This type of evaluation is also used:

·         To know/identify minor learning difficulties.

·         To check students’ abilities on daily, weekly and monthly basis.

·         To check the learning process where it is running smooth or not.

·         To identify strengths and weaknesses.

·         To identify target areas that need to work.

 

    (3) Diagnostic Evaluation

In diagnostic evaluation the students’ learning difficulties ore weaknesses are identified during the course of instruction. It attempts to discover the specific areas of weakness of the pupils in a particular course of instruction and also tries to provide remedial measure. In short, diagnostic evaluation is used to determining the current levels of knowledge and skills of student.

    (4) Summative Evaluation

It takes place at the conclusion of an instruction to know what extent the objectives previously fixed have been accomplished. It is conducted at the end of year, semester, class, level, or after the completion of any degree/course. It provide the end results. It is used to check every programs’ success or failure. It can be used for the purpose of promotion, certification, reward or punishment etc. For example: Mid-term examination, final test, final project.
